Goodbye Cruel World?

12 Dec

...maybe.

According to the Mayan calendar, the world is supposed to end two years from today.  I’m not saying I’m happy about it, but… I sometimes think to myself…”we kind of have it coming, don’t we?”

Looking back at the last 6000+ years of human civilization, we’ve done some amazing things, but such is life, we tend to balance it out with equally horrible things.

There’s the big stuff like war, slavery, genocide and environmental degradation. And then there are the everyday things that slowly start to chip away at the fabric of society. Monotonous routines, pressure to consume, unrealistic expectations. It’s enough to drive any sane person mad and longing for December 12, 2012 to just hurry up and get here already.

But I don’t want to be a downer…afterall, these may be my last remaining months on earth.

And, in these potentially final days, I’d rather explore the deeper, yet somehow still surprisingly shallow, facets of humanity.  Those seemingly innocuous things that really send the message, “God/Big Bang, you gave us a chance, and we blew it.”

So stay tuned for some regular insights, courtesy of popular (and sometimes not so popular) media, on how I believe, we’re actively, and often happily, contributing to our own demise.

To lead off, I present you with (drum roll please…), Teva stiletto heels.  No, seriously. It’s a real thing.  I checked.  Please discuss amongst yourselves.

Well I hope it won’t be all doom and gloom it’s much better to go out with a bang. I was checking the date of that website for the Teva’s but alas it wasn’t April 1st. Surprised they didn’t use Sarah Palin to promote them on her new show as she seems to be a perfect fit, outdoorsy but sort of glamourous and stupid enough to think that they are a good idea. Looking forward to reading your blog. Oh and David Sedaris is coming to Beijing in January.

I bet Sarah Palin would have rocked those Tevas. I do have to wonder however, where exactly is that girl going in her high heels, wheelbarrow and leg warmers? And why is the other girl not wearing any trousers? Perhaps there was an accident at the hippy strip club and they needed to bury a body-quickly. :)
